The WACGC presented an outstanding Standard Flower Show May 25, 2017 at the Colonial Heritage Clubhouse. Forty-one design entries, fifty-three horticulture entries, and three Special Educational Exhibits composed the show. The show was judged by a panel of nine Accredited Flower Show judges on the day before. The judges’ evaluation panel scored the show high enough to enter for a National Garden Clubs Council Flower Show Award. A book of evidence will be prepared and sent to apply for the award.
The fun theme “Simply Southern…favorites” took the show “over the top” as Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler greeted guests to view the show and visit the Garden Mart on the Clubhouse Veranda! A garden arbor, decorated with fresh Magnolia leaves, poet’s laurel and live Spanish Moss welcomed guests into the show. Designs – on tables, pedestals, floor designs, and petite designs, also on pedestals, filled one room while table designs – capsule, functional, and exhibition filled another. Horticulture specimens, properly named with genus, species, and common names, filled another room. The Bird Girl from The Garden of Good and Evil welcomed guests into the horticulture exhibits properly named “Gardens of the South”
The Special Exhibits featured: The Frightened Frog, Save the Rivah!,and Butterflies. These exhibits were displayed in the rear hallway of the Clubhouse.
