Pearl McManus founded the Williamsburg Area Council of Garden Clubs in 1963 and became its first president. At the time, she was a member of the Green Spring Garden Club and a National Accredited Flower Show Judge. She entered her last flower show in 1993, winning 14 blue ribbons and 3 top National Garden Clubs Flower Show Awards. She received the Arbor Day Garden Club Award in 1996. Her death in 2000 left the Council without its most dedicated and valuable member.
On May 23, 2013, then-president Marijane Harper invited all living past presidents to the Council’s 50th anniversary luncheon to be recognized and honored.
